The Advanced Reading Skills program (ARS) is Sylvan’s newest pro- gram offering. The program is designed to help students improve both reading speed and com- prehension. The purpose of the pro- gram is to replace poor read- ing habits with good ones. Regular eye and concentra- tion exercises help a reader to move through written material more quickly and with greater understanding. Both students and adults have benefitted from this six module, 12-hour course. “The drills were really effective,” said one North Vancouver adult student. Another = student, who attends secondary school in North Van, said “It’s now casicr to study because it takes less time.” More efficiency with bet- ter effectiveness is the key to success in this program. And it comes with its own guar- antee. Sylvan promises to raise a participant's effective reading rate (ERR = word per minute x comprehen- sion) by at least 50% after 12 instructional hours or it will offer re-enrollment until the goal is met. “My confidence in read- ing ability has increased as well as my academic perfor- mance which I associate with the eye and reading exercis- es,” said another high school student. The first fall offering of the program will be during the week of September 13. The tuition for the 6 modules (12 hour) course is $375.
