You alluded to three reasons. why. the willow tree was axed; my response to each is noted here: _1. Your propéctive tenants would require the - visibility so that their shops/businesses could be. seén by drivers on Marine Drive. (You have managed this centre for 20 years — if this was a major concern why was it left standing until this time? We would also '- direct your attention to the development a block east on Marine Drive. Here, sen- Sitive developers attractively: complemented the new development with extensive _ landscaping, including well- developed acacia trees that | obscure many of the signs. Norgate Plaza appears to be. busy nonetheless and shoppers undoubtedly appreciate the green touches here. _ 2. Willow roots have a nasty habit of cracking .the | . pavement. (I examined the surrounding =. asphalt yesterday and found. it to be in no worse:shape than the rest of. the, parking -lot — people would be more than willing to put up with. a bump or two for the pleasure. that tree continually gave. 3. Parking spots are at a premium. (I have never seen this car park full, and even if, with new. tenants, “traffic does increase,.there is ample street parking available in the immediate vicinity. Mr. Hedley, people in this community loved that tree and we were most distressed to see the manner in which it was destroyed. By your own admission, not one Norgate community. member Was ys .
