Omar joined his uncle Gus working in the ER. Taylor asphalt plant. Tt was not long (1947) before Omar talked his dad into coming to the coast and joining himself and uncle Gus Muri in starting the Construction & Supply Company. The new business rook off with the company run- ning two crews. Shortly thereafter, father and son bought out Uncle Gus and changed the company’s name to the Hanson Lumber & Hardware Store, with a small branch store in Vancouver. For 23 vears they kept busy building house During this same period, Omar successtully operated an asphalt business and, for a 10-vear period, a furnace and stove of} business under the name of Hanson Fuel 4. SENIORS Oils, using a divided truck for deliveries, There was no holding Omar down and the timing was right, so in 1948 his family moved into their newly built home (designed by vou know who), where they lived for 25 vears before Omar built their pre- sent Seymour home. Atage 4] and brimming over with energy and ideas, Omor starred working with London Life Insurance. For 15 years he worked with them, while still involved with building houses and sub-divisions. As if this was- n't enough, this self-starter began financing contractors. The vear 1971 arrived and sadness struck. Omar's dad passed away and Omar sold the lumberyard. He retired from London Life in 1974, and although he kept building small houses and a sub-division, and owned farm Jand in Saskatchewan, he tapered off his working Sunday, February 7, 1999 — North Shore News — 29 Through the vears tt was noc “all work and no play,” says Omar with a smile. He and Bernice named their 23 foot Bavliner boat The Anorer, and spent wonder: ful weekends and summer holidays cruisng Desolation Sound and the San Juan Islands. They joined the North Shore Winter Club in 1959, Omar recently curled in the over 80s men’s bonspiel and, quite naturally, rook second prize. He still enjoys playing with the men’s bridge club as he has done for 10 years, Family, in-laws, friends and associations mean every thing to Omar. Gently touching Bernice’s hand, Omar savs: “FE feel very for- tunate and have had a geod lite.
