Pin Chang Liu achieved a perfect score and Daniel Brox was the only other BC student to place in the top five. * The West Vancouver Secondary School Treble Choir won the gold medal at the International Music Festival in Toronto last April. * Students from Gleneagles and Irwin Park Elementary schools persuaded West Vancouver Council to protect the be endangered tailed frog (Ascaphus truei) after discovering the tiny frog in a tributary stream of McDonald Creek. © West Vancouver students won four of six North Shore Chamber of Commerce Youth Unlimited Awards: in 1998 for Community Service, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Courage. ¢ Students in the environmental club at Ecole Pauline Johnson spearheaded the innovative “Learning Grounds” project at their school. With the support of parents and staff, these stu- — dents have helped to transform their school’s -— grounds into an educational resource, filled with native plants, that has as its focus the “Grand Allée,” a shady walkway of trees and benches. « A Sentinel Secondary student was chosen valedictorian at the Forum for Young Canadians in Ottawa. ° A Westcot Elementary student won first prize for his webpage design in a competition with secondary school _ students from across Greater Vancouver.
