The talented athlete, and equally-gifted student, is onc of cight B.C. high school stu- dents to win a B.C. School Sports Scholarship. The first-of-its-kind award offered by the association is for student-athletes planning to attend Canadian post-sec- ondary schools. It sort of runs in the family.” Hicks’ mother went to the Vancouver university, and both her sisters are currently attending the west side school. At the time of her scholar- ship application earlier this year, the Argyle student had a 4.0 Grade Point Average. Wilson -—~ the NSSSAA president during a critical peri- od in the Association’s history in 1971-72, and boys soccer chairman for 21 years — was two years at now-defunct Hamilton junior secondary before going to Argyle for the next 29 years. He coached boys’ and girls’ teams in a wide vanety of sports (basketball, cross-country, rugby, soccer, tack and field, volleyball and wrestling) during the first half of his coaching career before spending the last half with basketball and his first love — soccer. His Pipers’ senior boys soc- cer squad won the provincial titles in 1976 and 1988. The six previous recipients of the Honorary Life Membership, awarded to those who have made an extraordinary contribu- tion to NSSSAA athledcs for the duration of their career are Bill Parnell, Roger Kronquist, Earl Henderson, Ed Pedersen, Mike Smith and Jack Tasaka.
