Conflict resolution
workshop is offered

LEARNING TO turn conflict
with your teen into a_ relation-
ship-enhancing experience is a
creative process that depends on
effective communication. Parent
and Teen Conflict Resolution is 2
workshop that teaches parents
specific skills necessary for attain-
ing mutually beneficial solutions
to conflict at home.

The skill-building workshop is
being offered by North Shore
Family Services Society (NSFSS)
on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m.
to 4 p.m., at Carson Graham
Secondary School. The cost of the
workshop, which includes lunch,
is $36.

Instructor Marie O’Neill, an
expert in family mediation, will
help participants develop con-
flict-resolution skills by identify-
ing the interests and needs of both
Parents and teens in a modern

age. Establishing a balance at
home between ‘‘teenage autonomy
and parental guidance’* is the key
to cooperative problem-solving,
O'Neill says.

The all-day workshop will con-
sist of three interactive compo-
nents: a presentation on theories
outlining the developmental needs
of the adolescent; a discussion on
conflict resolution skill-building;
and a participatory component
that involves role-playing and col-
laborative teamwork.

NSFSS is a United Way
member agency dedicated to
enriching and strengthening family
life. Their courses are co-spon-
sored by North Shore Continuing
Education.
