By Surj Rattan News Reporter Patrick Bruskiewich, 29, ran for an aldermanic seat in the municipality two years ago and lost to Ald. Emie Crist by a slim five votes. A maverick member of the North Vancouver District Adviso- ry Planning Commitiee (APC), he submitted his resignation from that committee to Mayor Marilyn Baker recently, after he said he was asked to resign for being too “‘outspoken.”’ And Bruskiewich, who has sat on the APC for the past two years, criticized the district coun- cil, which appointed him to the APC, for not paying enough at- tention to what he called ‘‘serious problems’” occurring in the district. Instead, said Bruskiewich, council has chosen to spend most of its time on the controversial Northlands golf course proposal which he said most people do not want. “The Advisory Planning Com- mittee asked me to resign because I'm too outspoken. We have to deal with these issues. The other members of the committee are comfortable to be a closed ” Bruskiewich charged council with having ‘‘a lack of focus.”’ Bue APC chairman Jacquie Murfitt said the APC did not ask Bruskiewich to resign, but rather voted unanimously to ask council to seek Bruskiewich’s resignation. **The APC members came to this decision with great regret and it was not because Patrick was outspoken per se,’ said Murfitt. “While the committee members share Patrick’s concerns, Patrick was asked several times to disassociate his personal com- ments from those of the commit- She added that Bruskiewich had started to use the APC as a ‘‘plat- form’’ for making public state- ments and as an example pointed to an Avg. 12 News story in which Bruskiewich called for the installation of traffic lights along Mount Seymour Parkway.
