NIV doctor's conduct fauited A NORTH Vancouver doctor has been found guilty of unprofes- sional conduct by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. (CPSBC). The findings follow a report from the CPSBC’s Inquiry Com- mittee into allegations against Dr. Veruc D. Flather of improper Gispensation of various medications. The charges against Dr. Flather relate to inappropriate prescrib- ing of Ritalin, Fiorinal C¥2, Valium, Haicion and Tussionex. Under the penalty imposed by.CPSBC, Dr. Flather will have bis name erased from the Medical Register and placed on the Tem- porary Medical Register. A listing on the temporary register requires that a doctor’s ficence to practice be ceviewed annually and that it be subject to various terms and conditions. The terms to which Dr. Flatber must now adhere include ensur- ing thet his future practice be beyond reproach in all respects; that he will not in future prescribe the drugs involved; that le will at- tend a specified remedial education program on appropriate prescribing, with the provision of assessment reports to the regis- tear and compliance with any resultant recommendations; that his practice ie reviewed ip one year; and that he pay a fine of $5,000. Mian fined for boating incident A NORTH Vancouver man was fined in West Vancouver provin- cial court Sept. 6 after he was found guilty of the dangerous operation of a vessel and operating a vessel while having 2 blood alcohol level of over .68. . The charges stemmed from a June 3 incident during which a Vancouver City Police marine squad arrested two men after the captain of 2 B.C. Ferry boat complained to the coast guard of a boat oprrating too closely to the ferry at about 9 p.m. The ferry captain reported that a Sewell’s Landing rectal boat was continually cutting across the path of the ferry. The captain reportedly made severai manceuvers to avoid collision with the smaller boat. The police marine squad responded to the Sewell’s dock and located three suspects whe had since left the rental boat. A foor chase ensued and two men were arvested. As a result of police investigation, the driver of the beat was charged. Twenty-four-year-old Evan Barlow Tail, of North Van- conver, received a $500 fine and a one-year driver’s licence suspen- sion for operating a vessei while having 9 blood alcohol fevel of over .08. Tait was also fined $1,500 for the dangerous operation of a vessel. Doctors open WV clinic - A GROUP of North Shore doctors has opened a new after-hours medical clinic in West Varncovuer. The Ambleside After-Hours Medical Clinic, which is located at 102-520 17th St., is staffed by approximately 30 different ares doc- tors, who take turns working at the clinic after their regular prac- tices close for the day. It is open from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 2 .m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Dr. David Martin said the clinic is an attempt to provide the West Vancouver public with better, more accessible hours for their medical needs. . Youth arrested after break-in NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP arrested a young offender Sept. 9 after witnesses at Mosquito Creek Marina observed a suspect break- ing in to an office. A break and enter in progress was reported to police at approxi- mately 6:45 a.m. As a resuit of cooperation received from the public, police apprehended a young offender after a foot chase. Investigation showed that the indi- vidual was implicated in an earlier break and enter incident. Two charges of break, enter and theft are pending against the youth.
