TWIN TOWERS ISSUE Resident slams WV Council Dear Editor: The purpose of local governm- ent is to provide efficient services and to enhance civic pride, but in many cities and towns the ruling counsellors divide their time be- tween running their own policy, pouring scorn on the values and way of life of their respectable res- idents, and wasting money. We are secing in the actions of the District of West Vancouver Council, as shown by the Twin Towers development lease, a council of seven members running their own policy apparently without regard to the public inter- est. This divergence of council and Smoke burns up VW. Van taxpayer Dear Editor: I know that if { became aware that an activity of mine caused in- convenience, distress and injury to the health of others I would be shocked and ashamed. Most of the year I think West Vancouver is a wonderful place to tive. The exception is burning months. The problem is the smoke. Invariably burning takes place when the weather is overcast and the smoke is trapped by both fog and cloud. The result for me is that | know for a certainty that I will be sick in October and April. I have a chronic illness which at the best of times I can control reasonably well. Burning months are not the best of times. I can confidently predict that | will develop respiratory problems at this time. ; For nine weekends a year I am forced to cither stay indoors with windows and doors tightly closed or to leave the community. These solutions are expensive, inconve- nient (when am I supposed to do my gardening?), impractical and unsuccessful use the smoke hangs. in the air till midweek and the briefest exposure is enough to cause problems. 1 believe that it is my right as a taxpayer to expect that the air I breathe should be as fresh and un- polluted as S possible. In October and April the air of West Van- couver is harmful to the health of many of its citizens. I hold West Vancouver Council responsible. Sheila Bard West Vancouver MAILBOX residents is shown by the tremen- dous amount of vocal and published opposition to this Twin Towers project, each tower ap- parently to be as massive as a Park Royal Tower building. Having had the Ambleside Beach Band Shell project decisively turned down for lack of public support, council has now needless- ly resuscitated this project, with a further waste of time and money. It is sincerely hoped that seven residents of West Vancouver will be forthcoming for the November elections to decisively unseat the present council and elect aldermen responsive to the needs and wishes of West Vancouver residents. These seven aldermanic candidates will be assured of tremendous public support.
