oP Tair MER See Changes proposed for LGH hospital elections Dear Editor: ’ Once again it is time to elect a new hospital board for Lions Gate Hospital, and once again the two opposing factions, Pro Life and Free Choice, are blitzing the public with their campaign to have a slate elected on this issue alone. : Abortions are such a minute part of the overall functions of Lions Gate Hospital that to nominate and elect someone on this issue alone seems ridiculous to me, keeping in mind that each side represents the radical fringe of the protlem and not the views of the general public. I aiso resent having to pay a $5 fee to join a society that will then allow me to vote for someone to “dispense my tax dollars. That is, I would resent paying the $5 if I -were allowed to join the society, but, being an employee of Lions Gate Hospital, I am not allowed membership. . Unlike municipal workers who are encouraged to voie for mayor and council, or school teachers who can not only vote for school trustees but are actually eligible to run and hold the office of trustee, some 2,000 citizens are denied a vote, because of their vocation, as to how their health care tax dollars will be spent in their own com- munity. I believe it is time the directors of Lions Gate Hospital were elected by all of the voters of the three municipalities serviced by the hospital, without the $5 voter’s fee,.which must deter some of our _less-prosperous citizens and without the discrimination that certainly prohibits a large number of informed voters. The elections could easily. take place on the same slate as school trustees, aldermen and mayors. | would hope the three councils would consider this fairer and less-expensive alternative.
