THE FIRST Whistler Adventure
Film Festival, scheduled to run
Nav, 21 to 23 at the Whistler Con-
ference Centre, will bring together
the best new films on mountaineer-
ing, skiing, sailing, kayaking and
other adventure sports.

Film entries from around the
world will be competing for $3,000
in prizes plus a Pacific Western
Aidines trip for two ‘Peoples
Choice Award”’,

Some of the films entered so far
include Hell and High Water, a
Canadian/BBC production — that
follows a kayak and raft adventure
down the Grand Canyon of the

Two skiing films from New
Zealand will also be shown: fae

dramatic skiing footage on Treble
Cone, Harris Mountains and Me.
Egmont: Across The Main Divide
features the current North
American telemark champion ski-
ing in New Zealand plus Life is a
Beach in the Alps, a tongue-in-
cheek look at skiing.

A French-Canadian entry Cho
Oyu-The Impossible Route follows

North Wind, a documentary about
the 1981 [rish Arctic expedition to

around the planet, crossing both
the north and south poles. The
adventure took 10 years to com-

Paucartambo-Inca River is a
drama about five kayakers de-
scending a river that slices through
the heart of the ancient Inca Em-

pire, from the Peruvian Andes to
the Amazon Basin. The film's
soundtrack features Andean folk

Sailing films include Aussie
Assault and Lonely Odyssey, the
