TO MARK National Book Week,
April 12-19, the North Vancouver
Community Arts Council has
launched several projects designed
to raise the profile of the literary
arts on the North Shore.

A’ $200 donation from Ed
Barnes to encourage writing
among children provided the seed
money for a writing project in
North Van Elementary Schools.

Children are being asked to
write stories about their lives on
the. North Shore, and the most
noteworthy of these stories will be
collected, published and

North Van Arts Council
promotes local authors

distributed to all North Van
elementary schools.

Thanks to a supplementary
donation of $400 from the North
Vancouver School Board, it will
also be possible for the Arts
Council to donate a suitably in-
scribed Canadian book to the
library of cach participating
school.

LOCAL WRITERS

Established writers are also in
the limelight. Names. of all

published writers who live on the

North Shore ---including poets,
playwrights, fiction and non-fic-
tion writers — ana details of their
work are being assembled for a
North Shore Writers’ Directory.

The finished Directory will be
presented to North Shore libraries,
schools and bookstores during
Book Week. :

also being asked to arrange
displays of books’ written by North
