THEATRE FOR THE YOUNG OPEN STAGE Repertory Theatre Company is a new and innovative group which is about to em- bark on its first North Shore season. Created by artistic director Coryne Hockley and resident director Lloyd Burritt, their idea was to develop a ‘“*hands-on’’ approach to theatre where participants learn all the phases from box office to backstage. Initially the purpose was to Start an alternative work pro- gram for young people aged 18-24 years. The members would make a year-long com- mitment and earn a salary while they learned. Canada Manpower was unable fo assist in setting up the program, se the com- pany approached Canada Councal for grant funding. Here they were told they must first prove themselves for one year and only then would their application be considered. So, this season 1s to be the pilot project — a make or break season. The repertory aspect of the company 1s not yet in effect due to the lack of funding, so there are no contracts and no salaries. They do have an ac- tive 30 member core group and cast ther plays trom within the membership and open auditions Hockley and Burritt about thirty years of expenence Hockley theatre, have theatre between has oa them BEA oan with an honors in directing. from the | niverss tyeot Victoria She alsa has a teaching certificate in theatre and Sumnon She director of the visual arts: from braser University Was AP LIstig trhow defunct UC oncorr River tor Pheatte oan Powell Pwo WOarS t ‘ 4 Bring this coupon and receive a maximum of six ; FREE ADMISSIONS ' VOXME TDP CON TIE Now 2?
