SCHOOL DISTRICT 44 officials say an incident
at the Brackendale Outdoor School where an II-

year-old student broke his cheek after

falling

from his bunk bed is unfortunate.

The student, spending
time at the camp as part of
the district’s outdoor educa-
tion program, required
plastic surgery to reset the
bone in his cheek after his
late night fall from the top
of a set of bunk beds. He
was aSleep at the time of the
fall.

He was found on the floor
of the cabin he was sharing
with another student by a

counsellor and rushed to
hospital in Squamish for
treatment.

The following day he was
taken back to Squamish

the outdoor education pro-
gram for the district, said
the incident has been in-
vestigated and that it ap-
pears the boy fell to the
floor because he was sleep-

ing at the wrong end of the
bed.

Despite that, he said, ac-
cidents happen in_ schools
and on playgrounds.

The mother of the boy in-
volwed expressed some
frustration earlier this week
because she said she had not
been given ‘‘a great deal of
information’’ yet on what
had led to the fall.

She said it had been a try-
ing time for the family and
the youngster, who had cele-
brated his llth birthday on
the day of the fall.
