Gun critics
‘emotional’

Dear Editor:

Being a recent initiate of
target shooting and gun
ownership, I was both amus-
ed and annoyed, but not sur-
prised, by J.W. Booth’'s emo-
tional response to W.F.
Whittall’s letter regarding
firearms and tyranny.

This emotional bias was
also evident in your colum-
nist McCreadie’s recent
description of the guards
protecting Howard Hughes’
Spruce Goose aeroplane
with “ygly guns”.

Disliking firearms, or any
material item, is an in-
dividual’s prerogative. But in
regard to their lawful and
responsible ownership and
safe use in sport, and indeed,
even in extremis, their use to
protect life, by citizens in a
democracy, let us have more
rational discourse than that
of the Booths and Mc-
Creadies.
