Fieldwalker observes that
the market’ -has improved
with the growing popularity
of diesel-powered displace-
ment and-semi-displacement
craft and the introduction of

ultra-light displacement sail-
boats.

‘‘The demand for diesel-
powered trawlers in the 30 to
40-foot range has been
greater in the last five years
because they maximize the
use of fuel,’” he says.

‘‘There’s a surge of people
going into sailboats with the
advent of the _ ultra-light
displacement, which was not
on the market last year: It’s a
fast, light racing number
available at a low cost which
has made a big impact.”’

All types and sizes of
pleasure craft will be display-
ed along with marine acces-
sories and special attractions
designed to entertain the
whole family at five Boat
Show locations - Pacific
coliseum, Rollerland, Forum
and the Showmart and Food
Buildings.

The doors will be open
weekdays from 6-10:30 p.m.,
Saturdays from 1-10:30 p.m.
and Sundays from 1-6 p.m.
Admission is $3 for adults
and $1 for senior citizens and
youths aged five to fifteen.

World-renowned adven-
turer Naomi James and The
Honorable James Chabot,
Minister of Lands, Parks and
Housing, will preside at the
official opening ceremonies
at 7p.m., Friday, February 2
in the Showmart Building.
