Info: 984-4181. eee Citizenship event slated THE NORTH Shore Multicultural Society (NSMS), in conjunction with the Canadian Citizenship Court, will hold an inaugural! event on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Centenuial Theatre in North Van- couver, A total of 54 immigrants from over 20 countries will be granted Canadian citizenship and will be welcomed as new Canadians by Judge Khatun Parpia. “The North Shore Multicultural Society is proud to work hand in hand with the Citizenship Court,” said Zaher Meghji, a member of the society’s steering committee. “It is our society’s mandate to promote closer ties between all our community groups, and to ensure that we have a chance in participating in communal respon- sibilities to our country as outlin- ed in the oath of citizenship.’”’ The NSMS was formed in response to the special community needs that have arisen due to changing demographics and_in- creasing cultural diversity on the North Shore, said Meghji. He added that individual members of the North Shore multicultural community have been mecting for several months to devote their time and effort to help establish the NSMS. “The society secks to establsih closer co-operation between di/- ferent culture groups, private businesses and public agencies and help io build strong inter-cultural bridges that will make the North Shore a more vibrant and dynamic community a» we look into the 90s,"" said Meghji.
