Jim West, of Westworks Construction, 4 North Vancouver-based camnany, was named the principsi win- ner of the award given by the Canadian Home Builders Association of B.C. for his work on a kitchen renova- tion in the British Properties. Yaletown-based Red Kitchen Studio Inc., which handled the design and cabi- netry millwork on the pro- ject was named as an associ- ate winner for the project, which took about 9 months to complete. “We were asked by the client to do a kitchen renova- tion,” said Redl’s Lorne Beally, “but it expanded into a renovation of half of the “Deane Laneaster DID you suff lar years lower floor of the hause.” Because the homeowners do a lot of entertaining, the final project involved com- bining the kitchen, dining room and living room into one “Great Room.” The kitchen now has 4 “double galley”: two islands which separate the food preparation areas from the cating and entertaining space. “It was a very 1960s kitchen,” said Beally, of the pre-renovation kitchen. “We used lavish materials — it’s meant to be a very elegant room.” The finished Great Room has limestone tile floors, granite countertops and a curved China cabinet.
