During the Oct. 23 council meet- ing, Milne was on hand as a North Vancouver City Council policy coraimittee recommended the adop- tiou of an environmental protection bylaw based in part on her Feb. 17 report to council, The committee is made up of all six councillors and the inayor. Coun. Darrell Mussatto serves as its chairman. Coun, - John Braithwaite expressed his concern regarding the appointment of a staff person as well as a committee but later joined his colleagues in an unanimous vote in favor of all of the recommenda- tions in Milne’s report, “I’m a committee man from way back,” said Braithwaite. The ideas that come from people in the com- munity are amazing.” In making the recommendation, the committee is urging the city to follow in the footsteps of other municipalities, including North Vancouver District, which have already established such programs. Milne’s report also suggests the adoption of the following recom- mendations: @ that an environmental protection bylaw be drafted to protect those areas and others; @ that an environmental protection plan be created to guide the city, staff and public; @ that a tree preservation bylaw be drafted as defined by the B.C. Provincial Municipal Act. -The next step will see the com- mittce’s recommendations present- ed to council for its consideration.
