While Project Telstar can best, be
described as an. advanced pen pal
system, its objectives are more than
simply sending letters back and forth
between people, said Hassard.

The project's approximately 44
members in 29 countries communi-
cate via letters, computers, and fac-
simile machines. Hopefully, said
Hassard, satellites will make  real-
time communication possible in the
future,

Hassard, the driving force behind
the project, thought of the ides about
13 years ago as satellites began to
take off and cosmonauts visited the
skies and Vancouver:
