Suspect sought

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are asking for the public
help in capturing alone male suspected of sexually harass-
ing « group of youngsters.

A police spokesman said on Monday, April #2, from
7:55 pom, to 8:10 pam., aman was sitting ina whirlpool
at the Karen Magnussen recCentre. During this time the
suspeet is accused of having touched several youngsters
in the pool,

A total of seven reports of the man feeling the
youngsters wus received.

The suspect is described us being white and between 40
and 50 years of age. He has brown baie with grey on the
sides, a two-day growth of beard, is between S'8" (173
‘em) and 5°40" CETB em) tall, and is heavy set with a
[beer belly."

No charges

THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP are not recommending
charges against two males who were Involved fn an
apartment fire on Friday, April 9.

A 19.yenr-oid male and a juvenile male were in a
rented suite in the 500-bIk. of Lonsdale Avenue when
methyl hydrate spilled on a stove af 10:30 p.m. ‘

The adult was hospitalized with minor burns.

The apartment was gutted after more than, four litres
of Mummable methy! hydrate fuelled the blaze.’

Two garbage bags containing marijuana were found
‘on the ground beside the nine-storey building, according
to a witness.

Methy] hydrate is commonly used in the process of
making hashish of] from marijuana leaves.

Crabs nabbed

FIVE PEOPLE have been charged and fined. $f,100
under the federal Fisheries Aci after they were found in
possession of undersized Dungeness crabs in West Van-
couver.

A West Vancouver Police Department spokesman said
at about 3:08 a.m. on Sunday, March 28, the police
stopped a vehicle as it left the Ambleside Beach area.

As the vehicle came to a stop, the occupants began to
- toss items out of the vehicle. . '

Police recovered 55 undersized crabs.

Halloween

A WEST Vancouver woman
has been awarded $23,000
in damages from the
District of West Vancouver
after a fall into a pavement
hole on Halloween night in
1989.

The B.C. Supreme Court found
that the district was solely respon-
sible for injuries suffered in the
fall, in a judgment — released
Tuesday, April 13, in Vancouver,

Sheila Perret suffered a severe
ankle sprain, left hip pain, and
was unable to work for. cight
weeks. :

The incident happened when
Perret. was carrying her then 5-
year-old) daughter to “tvick-or-
treat’ at a friend's house in the
2600-block of Marine Drive.

The one-foot-wide hole, which
was up to four inches deep, was
located on an asphalt path
the corner of 27th Street and
Marine Drive,

The path was left over from an
abandoned bus stop. The district
usually removes such paths, but
had not yet removed this one. ‘it
is clearly a trap in the dark,"
noted Madam Justice Mary Mar-
vyn Kocnigsburg. : :

Perret. was carrying her Sleepy
daughter, caught her heel in the
unlit hole, and lost her balance.
The woman heard her right. ankle
rip, and veered to the left to pre-
vent harming ber child. She fell
on her left hip, with her child on
top of her.

Perret’ returned to work on
crutches two weeks after the acci-
dent, but was forced to take a
leave of absence due to the hip
pain. While the cutlook for full
recovery is good, the woman is
still unable to run, skate or swim,
3% years after the accident.

The judge awarded $18,000 for
geucral damages, $4,167 for sick
leave benefits in fieu of lost work,
and $905 for special damages.

“We had hoped to settle out-
of-court, but we had a tough
fight with the district,’ said
Kyong-Ac Kim, the lawyer for
Perret,
