The car became a metaphor for
freedom,

How many times have you just
jumped in the car, put. in a
favorite cassette and headed for a
stretch of uncluttered pavement?

These days though, a drive on
Worth Shore thoroughfares usually
entails bumper-to-bumper traffic
lineups and stop-and-go_ clutch-
burning waits at the Lions Gate
Bridge.
~ We all-know there is a problem
— one that is just getting worse
— but what are the solutions?

After this month the North
Vancouver City planning depart-
ment. will -be presenting council
with recommendations culled from
Part B of the North Vancouver
Transportation Network Study.

The study is not yet available to
the public, but aspects of a lower
level. route, the highway _ inter-
change at Westview. Drive “and a
third crossing of Burrard Inlet are
sure to be discussed in the study.

released in January 1990 and i

Vancouver to the Second Narrows
Bridge;

ment on Lonsdale between the
Upper Levels Highway and
Queens Road;

and Mount Seymour.

“In addition to the road system
improvements ihere will be a need
for enhanced ‘transit service both
in peak commuting periods as well
as throughout the day,"’ the
report states.
