Maplewood celebrates 25 years

MAPLEWOOD COMMUNITY
School will be celebrating its 25th
anniversary on May 24 at 420
Seymour River Place in North
Vancouver from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30
p.m.

Staff and principals who have
worked at the school during the
last 25 years are being encouraged

to attend the event.

Photographs of students, teach-
ers and events from the past
quarter century will be on display
and there will also be a section for
“name that person’? for photos
that have not been identified.

Brazilian group performs

STUDENTS AT Sentinel Second-

ary School were treated to a spec-
racular performance by the Brazil-
ian group Capoeira De Santana in
the school’s auditorium. Capoeira
is a seerningly impossible blend of
acrobatics, martial arts and dance,

which came to Brazil from Africa
in the 17th Century. It is now the
second most popular sport in
Brazil after soccer. The group will
be appearing at the Vancouver
Children’s Festival this weekend.
