Chretien visits North Shore FEDERAL LIBERAL leadership hopeful Jean Chretien is sched- uled to visit the North Shore on Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Lonsdale Guay Hotel’s Bistro, 123 Carrie Cates Court, in North Vancouver. The meeting will provide an opportunity for residents of the North Vancouver and Capilano-Howe Sound federal ridings to listen to und ask questions of Chretien. Cove power knocked out BETWEEN 1,200 and 1,500 Deep Cove residents went without power for several hours Sunday night and early Monday morning after heavy winds knocked down trees on power lines near the Cates Park area. Hydro senior communications coordinatior Verne Prior said 10 spans of conductor wire fell to the ground as a result of the wind storm, which wreaked havoc throughout the Lower Mainland, resulting in an estimated 40,000 people losing power. Cedarview Lodge rejects contract CEDARVIEW LODGE in North Vancouver has joined 36 other long-term cave facilities in B.C. in rejecting a contract settlement between them and the Hospital Employces’ Union (HEU) recom- mended in December by mediator Dalton Larson. The employers rejected the agreement because of the inclusion of cadaver service and work-ioad committee clauses in the setilement, said Mark Brown, communications officer with Continuing Care Employee Relations Association (CCERA). According to the agreement, long-term care employees would receive the same wages and benefits achieved by acute care workers, said Brad Teeter, communications officer for Hospital Employees’ Union (HEU). . . No date has been set for talks to resume. . In the meantime, negotiations are continuing between Cedarview Lodge and its nursing staff, who are still without a first contract.
