They usually grow to 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20 in.), are available in ali sorts of colors and flower profusely. ‘Take the trouble to remove the withered flowers as they fade and you can enjoy an even more abun- dant blooming throughout the season. Most reach 75 cm to one metre (30 to 36 in.). Anemtone-flowered dahlias are even more remarkable. Their tubuiar petals are strongly enlarged and form a disc in the centre of the flower — a striking image to say the least. They’ll reach about 30 cm (12 in.) in height. The more familiar pompon, decorative, cac- tus and semi-cactus dahlias are popular as cut flowers and in deep borders. Dahlias are easy to grow. Their soil condition is not crucial, as long as it is not too wet. Plant them after the danger of frost has past.
