NORTH VANCOUVER | native Andy Mahood will have a new engine for today’s race in the fourth event of the Players/GM Motorsport Series West running in Calgary. Going intc the race in comfor- table eighth place, Mahood is bat- ding with Allan Berg and Murray Craig as the trio stand within a three-point standings spread. In the latest series action at the Westwood Motorsport Park in Coquitlam, engine troubles meant Mahood driving 15 kilometres slower than other cars. Bringing his Camaro out of turns gaining ground, the veteran driver would lose his advantage be- ing hampered by poor acceleration on the straightaway. Qualifying for an eighth-place starting position, Mahood manag- ed to hold on despite his problem engine to finish the race in seventh spot. N. SHORE NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE oxing club needs members during boxing time at the North Shore Neighbour- hood House at 225 East Second St. in North Van- THE NORTH Shore Neighbourhood House’s boxing club is looking for new members. Adults and children aged 11] years and older are en- couraged to join the club, which offers a chance to learn a new sport, have fun and keep fit. A variety of levels are offered from beginners to competitive boxing, and coach Tony Iacoviello works with each participant on an individual basis. The boxing club meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:15 p.m. Budding boxers wishing to join the club are re- quired to become neighborhood house members at the yearly membership fee of $8. Crew members described the tace as ‘‘a demolition derby,’’ and various cars went home with added dents from numerous spins and mid-race collisions. Prior to this race, Mahood’s rear brakes were dragging, keeping speeds down before his crew — led by veteran Rick Weaver — solved the problem.
