Land claims would force discrimination

Dear Editor:

South Africa's concept of
racial apartheid is seen by
most Canadians as racist in
the extreme. Dividing people
along historic and ethnic
lines is contrary to our dem-
ocratic way of life.

But what do we have in

B.C. now? Native land
claims and the advocacy of
‘aboriginal title’. Large

areas of the province, an
ethnic minority says, should

be reserved for Indians only.
Knuckle under and we'll
have a South Africa of the
north - vast land areas
reserved for Indians only
and others for non-Indians
only.

The idea of ‘aboriginal ti-
tle’’ has a first-come, first-
served ring to it. Where does
it leave late-comers, recent
immigrants for example?
