The business
of grain

IT’S DIFFICULT to associate waving fields of grain with
the North Shore mountains but grain plays a large role in
this region’s busy port life. These photographs from. the
Saskatchewan Wheat Pool show part of the operation. At
top, grain hopper car carries between 80 and 100 tonnes
of grain, with the Wheat Pool accepting 14,000 tonnes a

day. Below, two of the more than 180 employees at work
at the pool.
