Look at Lada

IMPORTED for the first
time in 1983, restyled Lada
models from the Soviet union
have many new features.
These include a completely
different grill with square
halogen headlights from
General Motors, a smart new
dash and = instrumentation
and noticeably lighter
steering.

Restyling is noticeable in
the softer lines of the body
The Signet 1.5 also carnies a

thick, 2°" protective
moulding on the external
sides.

The deluxe Signet 1 5 has a
18500 cco overhead-cam
engine, coupled to a smooth
shifting 4 speed) manual
transmission It has full
carpeting, selour upholstery
and a tully lined trunk

The Signet 1 V has a 1300
oe belt driven overhead cam
engine

Both models have thicker
steering wheels than previous
Ladas which makes for more
comfortable and sure handl-
ing. The new steering box has
ball-bearings that provide
lighter steering. The electrical
system has been simplified
and improved. All fuses and
relays are in a single easy-to-
service location; the cable
connectors are colour coded
and the windshield wiper
motor has built-in overload
protection

The Signet Sports models
have a completely new profile
with a moulded urethane
fender flare which stretches
the length of the car. Other
parts of the Sports package
are striping, mag wheels and
a three-spoke steering wheel.

The l.ada 1600, as its name
imphes, has a 1600 cc engine
Standard teatures include
items such as door mounted
saftetys courtesy lights,

tachometer and clock not
found in other Lada models.

The Lada Niva is known
for its go-anywhere rug-
gedness. It 1s the lowest 4X4
on the market. It has a solid
all-welded body which can
take all the rough road
punishment it is likely to
meet. Full reclining bucket
seats with adjustable head-
rests. Grab handles in all
passenger positions. Mud
flaps on all four wheels.

A newcomer in the Lada
line-up is the Niva Cabriolet.
This sun-loving version has
received convertible treat-
ment with the rear top cut
away and replaced by button.
