ONLY TWO CUT MORE North Shore school districts take brunt of restraint THE NORTH and West Vancouver School Districts are among those hardest hit by the provincial government's restraint program. Comparative figures for the province’s 75 school districts show that the pro- vincial government wil) cut spending by almost 15 per cent between this year and 1986 in North and West Van- couver while the provincial average is only 5.16 per cent. In fact, while spending here is cut, a total of 21 districts will wind up with more moncy at the end of 1986 than they currently receive Those increases are as high as seven per cent. The spending levels, set for 1984, 1985 and 1986 operating budgets, show on- ly a minor difference between what the two North Shore districts will be cut In 1984, North Van- couvers spending will be 4 05 per cent lower than this year’s and West Vancouver's will be reduced 403° per cent The provincial average tor the 1984 school year ts a By NEWS STAFF cut of 1.62 per cent. In 1985, the North Van- couver spending will be 9.16 per cent less than is is this year while in West Van- couver the figure will be 9.33 per cent lower. The provin- cial average will be 3.44 per cent lower. In 1986, the final year of the government restraint projections, North Van- couver spending will be 14.56 per cent less than it is 1983 while the figure for West Vancouver spending is 14.4 per cent less. The pro- vincial average is ‘5.16 per cent less. By 1986 North Vancouver will be the Oth highest spender in the province and West Vancouver the 29th But only two other districts will be operating with more severe cuts than the local boards will face — Burnaby, with cuts of 17.08 with cuts of 15.12 per cent.
