ban non-conforming neon signs

If passed, the new bylaw
amendment will render non-con-
forming all illuminated neon signs
currently installed in store win-
dows, except when the neon sign
identifies the business and is a
substitute for an outside sign.

Vancouver District Council on
Monday night.

taste.

But director of planning Steve
Nicrolls expressed doubts above
banning neon signs altogether in
the municipality.

“Some of them can be quite ar-
tistic,’’ said Nicholls, who added
that the proposed amendment
should be re-routed through the
local design panel.

But Mayor Mark Sager said the
bylaw process shouid begin.

“We can always bring in an
amendment by way of a more
permissive bylaw later,’” he said.
