_ So the Aero accelerates like a
jet; corners with a vengeance, and
won't disappoint the true
sports-car fans. What about its
practical aspects?

The Saab 9000 models have
always been praised for extremely
comfortable seats and van-like
interior space — the same applies
to the Aero model.

‘lL was surprised when I took a
look at the figures for the front
and rear headroom and front and
rear legroom (978, 950, 1,054, 983
mm respectively), and compared
these to Chrysler's much
publicized cab-forward LH
sedans’ numbers,

Though the Saab is 363 mm
(14,3 in.) shorter and 10 mm (0.4
in.) lower than the Chrysler In-
urepid, the headroom and legroom
dimensions are basically identical
to the LH’s. The Aero can
cwallow up five passengers with
complete ease.

The fuel consumption is ex-
cellent for a performance vehicle:
12.1 litres/100 km in city (23 mpg)
and 7.6 litres/100 km on highway
(37 mpg).

If you don’t like the unique
look of the Saab 9000 Aero — or
are just wondering what other
choices exist in this price range —
you may want to take a drive in
these competitors’ products: the
slick, all-weather-capable Audi
S4; the vibrant Alfa Romeo 1648;
the gutsy all-American Cadillac
Seville Touring Sedan; the
sitky-smooth Lexus GS300; the
unconventional Infiniti J30; the
solid Acura Legend; and the
high-profile BMW 325i.

Each of these cars offers a dif-
ferent level of comfort, perfor-
mance, and, dare I say, status,
and presents an interesting alter-
native to the youthful Aero.

Still, Saab gets the nod for be-
ing the only model to offer a
Practical hatchback body hiding a
true sports-car character, and that
might just be good enough to win
your heart.
