Lifeboat Society THE NORTH Shore Life- boat Society (NSLS) has just completed a major membership drive which will beef up its staff, all of whom are volunteers. By Surj Rattan News Reporter The NSLS, which has a rescue boat in Deep Cove and one at Fishermen's Cove in West Van- couver, transports fire and am- bulance crews to emergencies. In North Vancouver, the NSLS plays an instrumental role in: get- ting ambulance attendants to emergencies located along Indian Arm, where often the oniy means of transportation possible is on water. “We work very closely with the ambulance service and Tim Jones, the unit chief for North Van- couver,’’ says NSLS director Dave Lamb. ‘**He’s been very supportive of us and has been very in- strumental in setting up protocol with EHS (Emergency Health Services). Lamb is happy with the number of new members the NSLS has managed to attract. There have been [2 people running the show for the last two years. Lamb, who wears many hats within the NSLS including being in charge of fund- raising and public relations, said the membership drive managed to attract an additional 30 members. All will soon begin their train- ing sessions, which are coordi- nated through the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary. In fact, says Lamb, it is the Coast Guard Auxiliary which handles the operational side of the NSLS while the society itself is responsible for the administrative side of things.
