WV donates to rescue

WEST Vancouver
council recently gave
$25,000 towards
North Shore Rescue’s
search for a new com-
mand vehicle.

The vehicle, which will
cost $350,000 in coral, is the
key clement of any rescue
Operation.

link™ from which equipment
is transported, <ommunica-
tions are set-up and field sup-
port operations are directed.

keep up with the demand and
must be replaced.

As part of the initiative to
buy a new vehicle, North
Shore Rescue (NSR) has
approached cach of the three
North Shore municipalities
for $100,000 of the total
necded. NSR has already

local fire and rescue teams in
times of emergencies.

over the past months, it’s
wonderful.”

she said. “We can’t abandon
the ones that get fost.”

NSR consist of 43 volun
teers who search the moun
tains to rescue those individu
als who get into trouble, lose
their way, or are in need of
medical attention.

They have also devoted
thousands of hours over the
vears to public education pro-
grams on wilderness safety
and survival.

Each vear NSK receives 60
rescue calls on aversge. This
amounts to approximately
15,000 volunteer hours and
the number keeps climbing.
