WHAT COMES to your
mind when you see the word
“LOTTERY”? Do you see it
as picking a few numbers
and then winning a lot of
money?

To some people that's all it is,
but to others, it’s a way of life. Do
you actually sec it as a game of
strategy? If you don’t know much
about lotteries, you'd be surprised to
hear what I found out.

Every single day, the Lotto 6/49

jackpot grows bigger. While the

jackpot increases, so docs the lottery
retailers’ business. I was allowed to
interview people at a local licensed
Lottery retailer the other day, so I
conducted a little survey. Out of 34
customers interviewed over a one
day period, 14 of them played the
lottery. When J asked them if they

_played, I received some interesting

comments like, “I don’t like to
gamble” or “Play the lottery?
PFFFFF...No way!” [also asked
some of my high schoo! friends, and
they all had a negative attitude.
They responded, “the lottery’s for
losers!”, “I’d never win anything!”

“and “I'd never waste my money on

that crap!”.

There are six main lottery games

~ Extra, BC49, Sports Action, BC

Kéno and Daily 3. The most popular.

the long run, in regards to the
moncy they spent and won. Most of
them said, “Oh, | probably broke
even.” As they answered, | thought
to myself “Yeah, whatever buddy”,
because I had also asked them how
long they had been playing on a reg-
ular basis. The shortest time was 3
years. Now if there’s two draws per

. week, each one costing a minimum

of one dollar, that would be...oh! I
was wrong. You could break even,
because it’s about $300 for a year of
play, and most of the “broke even”
peopie said they had won $100 a
couple of times and $50 a few times.
‘Therefore they would be able to
break even. I’m gonna start playing
the Lottery!

There are also instant win games
which I’m sure everyone knows
about. They’re those “‘scratch and
lose games,” as someone told me.
The ones being sold where I did my
survey were: Harvest Gold, Gold

Rush, Rummoli, Blackjack, Dash

‘subdivided and developed i into small lots.

Who Qualifies for
Assessment Relief?

To qualify for assessment relief:

a completed application form must be submitted each year.
the property must be the property owner's principal

" residence.

the owner must have occupied the property continuously
for IO years, effective October 31 of each year.

the property's market value for another use must be higher
than the property's existing residentia! value.

additional qualifying criteria must be satisfied.

1t doesn't sound as enticing any-
more, does it?

After doing the research for this
article, [see lotteries in a totally
different way. They are not just
games where you lose moncy all the
time; if you get in to the games and
make strategies, you could maybe
win big money!
