Construction brisk

THE METROPOLITAN area could be head-
ed for a one-year construction record this
year, according to figures compiled by the
Greater Vancouver Regional District
(GVRD).

To the end of July this year the total value
of building permits issued by municipalities
in the GVRD was $2.22 billion. more than
$273 million higher than for the same period
in 1993.

The one-year record of $3.52 billion was
set in 1992, followed by last year’s $3.48 bil-
lion.

Residential and industrial construction
were up substantially.

The value of industrial permits for the

year. Large increases in industrial activity
were recorded in Vancouver, New
Westminster, North Vancouver District.
Richmond, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and
Langley City.

Residential construction was up over $169
million for the first seven months of °94 with
the largest percentage increases in Surrey,
Coquitlam, North Vancouver City and
Langley City.
