The Sutherland secondary school graduate is currently in his second season with the Simon Fraser University soccer team. Elligott began his soccer ca- reer with- the Lynn Valley Soccer Association, then moved on to the North Shore Metro team under Guenter Frey, winning four provincial _ championships .and one ‘na- tional title. Since January, he has been training with the Western National training centre and is in the select poo! of National team players, Elligott was also past of the gold medal winning B.C. team at the 1993 Canada Summer Games. The part-time North Vancouver nurse will turn 66 on Sunday, Nov. 7 -—- a mere three weeks after she broke the Canadian re- cord for her age group (65 plus) at the Richmond Flatlands 10- kilometre. race with a time of 45:41. BJ, as she's known to many, also won five gold medals at the B.C. Seniors’ Games this September in Cranbrook — one each in the 400m, 800m, 1500m, 10km and 4x100m relay races. “T was worn out at the end of that,’’ she says. “‘In three days we had to do all that mileage. It was a little tough.” , The same month she won the Bob Cleator Memorial, an age- rated cross-country race, for the second consecutive year. This spring she ran in the Big Sur Marathon (26 miles) and set a course record for her age group by ‘finishing the course in three hours and 51 minutes. The Big Sur Marathon is one of the more difficult races because of the course’s mountainous landscape. - In June 1992, McHugh set the Canadian record for her age group in the West Vancouver Half- Marathon with -her time of 1:42:14, Next year she hopes to make it” to the World Seniors’ Games in Buffalo, New York.
