FORGET LONSDALE Avenue —
now it’s called lranshahr.

It sounds strange, and nobody
expects the new mame to take
hold. But there are so many Ira-
nian businesses popping up in
central Lonsdale that Esmael
Karimi wants to give that section
of North Vancouver's main street
the unofficial name of Jranshahr,
which means Iran Town,

Karimi, who also coaches an

Perspolis — opened Kabubsara
Restaurant in central Lonsdale
three months aga, and gives Hran-
shahr as part of the addre

“Chinese people have China-
town, so why shouldn't we have
tran Town," he says.

The Iranian shops along Lons-
dale have developed in step with
the expanding Iranian community
on the North Shore, The presence
of stores selling familiar food and
providing services in Farsi (Per-
sian) is one of the attractions en-
couraging Lranixins to move here,
