Father of NV man shot by police upset over investigation into death THE FATHER of a North Vancouver man who was fatal- ly shot by a West Vancouver Police Department drug squad member said Thursday that he is disappcinted in the B.C. Crown counsel investigation into his son’s death. Daniel Possee, 22, was shot by the police on the night of May 12 during a drug raid by West Van- couver Poiice and North Van- couver RCMP officers on a house at 129 East 26th St. in North Vancouver. Possee, who had been living at the address at the time of the raid, was using a pellet rifle for target By Surj Rattan News Reporter practice in the basement of the house when the police entered. He was shot in the chest by a West Vancouver Police officer armed with a nine-millimetre handgun. He was not named in the police search warrant. The police were looking, in- stead, for Possee’s sister Kelly and her boyfriend Justin King, neither of whom was in the house at the time. Police, who said they had teason to believe there was a substantial amount of drugs in the house, found only 15 grams of marijuana, worth an estimated $100. This week, an investigation into ues} eae the incident by regional Crown counsel Bob Wright found that there were no grounds to lay charges against any of the officers involved in the drug raid. Wright said the police had thought Possee was armed with a shotgun and had reason to fear for their lives. Possee's father Derek, a former star with the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team, said he talked with Wright for two hours and understands Wright’s decision not to lay charges against the police. But he added that many ques- tions remain unanswered in the case. “} was disappointed with his (Wright's) statement. He kept talking about procedure. What is procedure? The doors (at the house) were always unlocked, and it took six police officers to go in. “A knock at the door and Danny would still be alive today. I don't think there was a threat at all,’’ said Possee. Sek eva ccs Maca aes Ned aN ea ca Ee REACHING EVERY DOOR ON THE NORTH SHORE SINCE 1969
