WHILE TRAFFIC on B.C. Ferry
Corp. (BCFC) routes was up
significantly in 1990, fewer pas-
sengers sailed between Horseshoe
Bay and Nanaimo last year, ac-
cording to figures released recently
by the BCFC.

During 1990, a total of
3,909,456 passengers travelled be-
tween Horseshoe Bay and
Nanaimo’s Departure Bay, down

Overall, however, three-quarters
of a million more passengers sail-
ed with B.C. Ferries in 1990 than
in 1989.

During the past year, the
BCFC's fleet of 39 vessels carried
19,735,103 passengers and
7,703,430 vehicies.

“In 1989, the  corporation’s
passenger traffic figures rose by
over one million. This past year,

another three-quarters of a million
passengers sailed with B.C. Fer-
ries,’’ said Transportation and
Highways Minister Rita Johnston,
the minister responsible for the
BCFC.

“*The corporation’s capital con-
struction program is in place to
meet the demands that these kinds
of increases place on the provin-
cial ferry system,’* she added.
