Signs indicating parking for the disabled generally have a wheelchair symbol! clearly marked. The designated spots were mov- ROYAL WEST VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL ed from the west side of the hall on 17th Street to the north side on Fulton Avenue last year. Community Services Advisory Commission member Patty Clark said that it would be easier and safer to get into a wheelchair on Fulton, than on 17th, which is on a heavily travelled hill, Clark, who has to get her wheelchair out of her trunk, had difficulty in attending commission meetings because she had to park on 17th. The designated parking spots were moved after a sub-committee of the commission met with municipal officials. Diana Hutchinson. But the installation of a lift from the parking lot would be ex- pensive, while there are concerns about security if the basement door were to be left unlocked after hours to provide access to those in wheelchairs attending council and other meetings. Ald. Andre Danyliu issued a plea to the public to stop parking or even stopping in the spots desig- nated for the disabled in West Vancouver. “The disabled and those who drive them are often older and frail and it’s not fair that they should drive around and around the block waiting for you to get out of their spots. Leave those few spots for those that really need them,”’ said Danyliu.
