Weigh pros, cons
of natural gas

AT LESS than half the
price of gasoline, natu-
ral gas is a very attrac-
tive alternative fuel.
But is it @ practical
alternative for your
passenger car?

Natural gas has many ad-
vantages over gasoline. It is
cheaper, safer, cleaner ourn-
ing, more efficient, less
polluting, prolongs engine
life and reduces engine
maintenance.

Many commercial opera-
tors and fleet companies,
such as taxi cab companies,
have converted their entire
fleets to natural gas.

But there are some disad-
vantages, too, such as the
cost of converting the vehicle
to run on natural gas, the
limited number of natural
gas filling outlets in B.C.
and outside of the province,
a shorter distance range, and
the heavy, bulky tanks need-
ed to store natural gas at a
very high pressure.

Let’s take a look ai the
benefits first.

Almost any gasoline-
powered interna! combustion
engine can run on compress-
ed natural gas with just a
few modifications and some
