24 - Wednesday, September 20, 1989 -— North Shore News ainino SD A SANDWICH for all seasons...Maria Ferbey, owner of Maria’s on Marine, presents one of her delicatessen’s grand sandwiches. Ferbey is currently looking for a new locale for Maria’s, which will soon be forced to move to make way for new tenants. “ys Maria’s On Marine is looking for new space to offer deli-style food WELL, I’m sure everyone has had enough of summer. It’s time to pack up the beach towel and haui out the rain gear for the impending monsoons. To help ease you into the season, behold an early autumn harvest of dining news from the North Shore. The regular restaurant review will appear in next week's column. MARIA'S ON MARINE, 1520 MARINE DRIVE, WEST VANCOUVER, 922-6999 West Vancouver will lose this source of what is arguably some of the best homemade grub available on the North Shore if owner Maria Ferbey is unable to find a new location in that municipality. Ferbey, who has run Maria’s for the past four years and built up a large and loyal clientele in the process, will soon be displaced by other tenants. While she says she would like to stay in West Vancouver, area rent for the business available is too high, according to Ferbey, who has had no luck in finding suitable alternative digs anywhere on the North Shore. The disappearance of Maria’s and its owner will deal a heavy blow to the solar plexus of the North Shore’s delicatessen com- munity. A Ferbey fan letter received recently by the Table Hopping bureau requested something be done to keep Maria‘s on Marine or somewhere on the North Shore, not only for the great food it pro- duces, but for the great person who produces it. TIMOTHY RENSHAY table hopping Maria, according to the letter, is “a very special person, a real good human being.” MANYO-SUSHI JAPANESE RES- TAURANT, 180 EAST SECOND *, ‘. jt BPRS "TikST ON Th NORTH NOW OPEN Chimes of Tyme ; Antique Ciecks Bought — Sold & Restored Affiliated with | ip The Wee Curio Antique Shoppe Pr DELBROOK PLAZA : —e=}3735-3787 Delbrook Ave. 983-2754 § STREET, NORTH VANCOUVER, 980-1510 Hoping to expand the culinary horizons of its regular clientele beyond the simple glories of Japa- nese sushi and attract a wider fol- lowing from all over the North Shore, Manyo management will unveil a new menu in September that should raise a few eyebrows and pique the interest of tastebuds everywhere. In addition to the restaurant’s ‘always reliable sushi and sashimi, the menu includes such items as Baked Geoduck (a 8.C. shellfish long overlooked by locals), Steamed Abalone, Soft Shell Crab, Beef Sashimi and Cheese Kushikatsu. Salad and soup sections have also been expanded, as has Manyo’s tempura, hot pot and noodle repertoire. Well worth a try. SHORE |} From page 22 season of 6 plays. Wed.-Sat. at 8 p.m. .
