Pure antifreeze
not the solution

THERE IS more to keeping a cooling system in good shape than just
keeping the antifreeze topped up. Ken Rutledge, right, of Nor-Est
Radiators reminds drivers that hoses, belts, clamps and the rest of the
system need attention as well,

Visions of a frozen engine during the depths of a severe cold snap
might encourage some zealous car owners to be fail-safe by pouring
pure antifreeze into their cooling systems. Then they leara the hard
way that they have created more car problems than they have solved.
Puce antifreeze — ethylene glycol — solidifies at -13°C, and is
intended to be mixed into a 50 per cent solution with water, which
provides protection to -33°C,
