But Lanskail also reported that Neighbourhood House gets grant NORTH SHORE Neighbourhood House (NSNH) recently received a provincial lottery fund grant worth $39,670 to cover phase one of renovations planned for the 20- year-old facility. The provincial money will pay for making the building more ac- cessible to the handicapped. First phase renovations planned for the beginning of the new year include ramping to the second floor, hand- icapped accessible washrooms and improved access to the day care, a new elevator and upgrading of plumbing and electrical installa- tions. “We serve a significant number of handicapped ‘members cf all ages. When the building originally went up, it wasn’t in the building code to provide this type of ac- cess,’’ said NSNH executive direc- tor Doug Sabourin. Future renovations will include renovations to the various program areas of the facility. “The neighborhood house has always taken an innovative ap- proach to community service and they are determined to expand their membership. This renovation project will assist them to expand their program to all age groups and ensure their future progress,”’ said North Yancouver-Capilano MLA Angus Ree. The facility serves as the North Shore Food Bank and offers a full range of social and recreational services for people from all age groups. Renovations will also include a 365,000, 22-space parking facility funded by the City of North Van- couver.
