Watson-Russell said «
study of a large group of
children showed that
children taught how to read
at age six had a 20 per cent
failure rate, verses children
taught at ages three and
four, who had a one per cent
failure rate.

Without receiving instruc-
tion at the level of develop-
ment the bright child needs,
Watson-Russell says the
child's abilities will average
out.

Once integrated into grade
school, Watson-Russell says
advanced children will either
mentally drop out of the
classroom, or try to fit in
with their piers so as not to
be noticed, if they do not
receive challenging academic
training.

“Children need an en-
vironment where it is
psychologically safe to dare
to be bright,’’ Wat-
son-Russell stresses.

Part of Watson-Russell's
training includes teaching
parents to develop individual
programs for their children
at home and in the public
schools.

West Vancouver is the
proposed location for the
school.

Early registration for the
preschool is set for Monday,
May 13 and Wednesday,
May. 15 between 9 a.m. and
4 p.m. at the West Van-
couver Recreation Centre.
