Oversimplified view

Regarding your Letter of
the Day in the North Shore
News of Sunday, May 6 in
which the writer states she
would rather be dead than
red and the 100,000 people
who walked for peace in Van-
couver on April 28 are intent
on undermining the western
world.

Firstly I would like to
quote from George F. Ken-
nan, former ambassador to
Moscow for the United
States.

‘*There is no issue at stake
in our political relations with
the Soviet Union which could
conceivably — be worth a
nuclear war.

Secondly if she feels she
would rather be dead than
red without trying to find a
peaceful way to solve the
world’s differences then
that’s fine with me.

The only problem is that
people with such a simplified

view of the world are likely to
take the rest of us with them.

Save Sasquatch

Dear Editor:

1 was truly shocked to read
in your paper that an
American veteran of the Viet-
nam War, and two of his
pals, are planning to hunt
and kill a Sasquatch! They
have planned to come to
Canada (B.C.) if they fail to
find any in the U.S., and they
are going to be very scientific
about it! They will have rifles
with night vision capabilities
plus sensors that will tell of
the approach of anything

from 300 to 400 metres away!
Is this fair?

Surely this species, which
has managed to avoid man
for so long, perhaps for hun-
dreds of years, deserves to be
left in peace? So I hope that
our government will not per-
mit this wanton hunt which is
the spilling of blood out of
sheer curiosity.
