IN JUST FIVE YEARS, the
North Shore News Sailing
Race has become the West
Coast’s second largest com-

petitive event for cruising
sailboats. Co-sponsored by
the North Shore Sailing
School, the race boasted
nearly 100 entrants last year,
up from 80 in 1981.

The sixth annual running
of this major event is set for
Sunday June 19, will run a
course from Dundarave Pier
in West Vancouver, to
Lighthouse Park, the Point
Grey Bell Buoy, and finish
off Kitsilano Beach. The
distance is some 12 miles.

“Our race is unique,” says

including brass plaques in
some 30 categories,
medallions for all the skip-
pers, and special certificates
for all skippers and crew.

The sponsors recognize
the serious side of the race,
awarding brass plaques to
fastest finishers in four
categories, but in keeping
with the fun aspect of this
family event, also reward en-
trants for ‘Most Luxurious
Lifestyle Afloat’, ‘Most Inex-
perienced Crew’, ‘Best Bribe
Attempt’ to name just a few.
