EVEN OFF DUTY,
West Vancouver police
Detective Chris Holmes
is a cop through and
through and not one of
those people who puts
his work behind him in
his spare time.

Take last weekend, for
example.

Holmes was, over on
Vancouver Island to receive
a letter of thanks from the
province at the B.C. Police
Commission’s honors night
held in Victoria Saturday,

honored at the Victoria
ceremonies.

North Vancouver RCMP
Constable Barry Shannon
received a framed letter of
thanks from the province for
his part in capturing: two
men, one of whom was
armed, wanted on murder
charges in Oregon, in a
combined operation with
two Vancouver police of-
ficers who were also
honored.

The mayor was referring
to the serious risks being
taken, in the event of an
emergency, by not having
clear six-inch property
numbers visible at the
property line.

“It is the first very few
minutes that count in an
emergency,” he stressed,
speaking to The News of the
difficulties fire, police and

Many citizens who fail to
display clearly visible
property numbers may not
be aware that they are
actually breaking the law.

West Vancouver Building
Bylaw No. 2473, Section 18,
requires that “. . . the owner
(of a property) shall place
the designated number of
numbers on the building in a
conspicuous position, and of
such size as to be plainly
visible from the street.”

Humphreys feels a
crackdown is overdue.

“We would do good
residents a favor if the bylaw
officers were asked to
enforce the requirement,”
he said, “rather than wait for
the inquest.”
