Next season should bring the fastest Honda on the rack if his winter improvement projects go well. Pieter Baljet began his second year of racing this season after completing his novice program last year with great expectations. He managed to live up to those expectations very well in- deed by claiming first overall in GT-1 driving a full race prepared Camaro sponsored by Royal Pontiac and Brian Coyle Agencies. The super- fast Camaro was virtually unbeatable with Baljet at the wheel and he very nearly won cvery race entered. Baljct plans to campaign his car again next year as well as try his hand at Formula Ford in a few events. Another successful driver on the 1.C.8.C.C circuit this year was Tim Moore driving his A & T Stair Rails Datsun 240Z to second overall in D- Production against some suff compctition.Moore finished last year in third just two points out of second despite having run only 8 out of 13 races This year he missed two races (one because he got. marned) and fatled to claim top spot in the series only because of the points lost in those events In the last six events Moore posted four wins and (wo seconds . Ray Cooke is one of Westwood'’s “gentlemen racers” And this year has_ campaigned his Ford- powered AC Cobra in the Vintage Car racing class. Cooke is a long-time racing fan and enjoys runhing for the fun of it. Next year's plans include running the Cobra again as well as a former champion vintage Formula C Brabham jf all the necessary parts gan be found. 7 Unfortunately not all of this year’s stoties are about successes. Sdme-drivers like Frank Quigg have only bad luck to talk about. After a crash in a Trans-Am event in California last fall, Quigg spent most of this year putting his rapid GT-1 class Camaro back together. Finally, after all the work was done, he ran the carina pro-sedan race at Westwood this summer, only to have his engine blow up partway through the event. Quigg’s plans for next year are uncertain. (Terry Peters photo) a drivers suc seeded stiffer opposition this year. Munro ran nine I.C.S.C.C. events this year, finishing first overall in four of those races and first in class in two others. The only real trouble he experienced this year was when a crankshaft broke early in the season at Westwood, forcing him to go with a less powerful backup engine. Al Allison ‘drove his D- Sports racing Brabham to second overall as he did last year except this year he was short of first play by a single point! As for me, finishing second overall in the L.C.S.C.C. series last year, I was ready to go for number one this time in my own racing efforts in the Formula Vee class. A bad start at the beginning of the season with a few car problems plus some driving errors as well left me behind however, eventually finishing third overall in F-Vee. I did set oul to win races Unough and that I did twice so things werent all that bad. During the latter half of the season I fared much better = after coming to. grips with problems and managed to post some near-record tap tumes at the various tracks in the process. so cir 985-5503 For 1982 I hope to be able to move up to Formula Ford at last dnd thus begin a racing career if I can make the cut. So, all in all, it’s been a pretty fair year for road racing as far as all of us North Shore drivers go. Most important , even though there was some bad luck mixed in with the good, everyone enjoyed them- selves and I'm quite sure next year will see us all back in the fray once again!
